Travel Essentials | The Fairgoer’s Guide to Venice’s Other Attractions

Enrica Rocca Cooking School
"Learning authentic Venetian cookery is more about finding the best regional ingredients than knowing how to fry a fish. This is the fine point that Enrica Rocca, a Venetian countess and lifelong chef, likes to stress in her lessons. Her classes begin with shopping tips at Venice’s Rialto fish and produce market and end with a jolly cooking tutorial in her home. After a few casual yet highly informative hours spent with Ms. Rocca, guests leave with a knowledge of lagoon ingredients, a little culinary wisdom and, without fail, a full belly"

Scallops in the Morning

"Enrica Rocca runs a cooking school beyond the ordinary. She’s an Italian cook of note and a flamboyant and passionate chef and restaurateur. She has Italian cooking in her blood and a contagious zest for life and food. Her dishes use two or three ingredients at most, well chosen, cooked with simplicity and brought to the table with gusto. Measurements are made by eye, timing done by instinct"

Venetian Countess Enrica Rocca founded her cookery school in 2002 and her daughters Charlotte and Claire oversee the London operation. Spend a full day selecting and preparing ingredients from Portobello Market or a shorter class learning how to make cicchetti, a Venetian snack, followed by a seasonal Italian pasta or risotto dish and Tiramisu"

The Secret Address Book of Vogue: Enrica Rocca Cookery School

"The laissez-faire attitude is what makes these classes so special. With no predetermined menu, ingredients are chosen by you during the morning visits to Portobello Market. Back in the kitchen, measurements are more often made by the eye than the scales and cooking times are judged with scant regard for the clock. The result? Delicious, instinctive cooking thats still fun to learn"
